GOG Galaxy will now shutdown

Had this issue for a while on GOG Galaxy for Windows. You start the program, it starts importing and after a few seconds you get the following message “Connection to the Communication Services was lost and could not be restored! GOG Galaxy will now shutdown.”

There is a list of reasons why this could be happening. I found these are the most common happened to me:

  • Make sure you are NOT connected via Remote Desktop (RDP) to the PC where GOG is running. If you really need to access GOG Galaxy remotely consider alternatives such as PARSEC
  • GOG Galaxy services should be set to Manual and not Disabled. You can try to set them to Automatic too and see if this sorts out the problem
    • Win Key + R
    • services.msc
    • Enter
    • Right click on the two services below, one at a time. Select properties and change the start-up type to Manual if on Disable or to Automatic if on Manual. Left click “OK”

  • Disable Hyper-V Hypervisor
    • Open an elevated PowerShell window
    • Run the following command: Disable-WindowsOptionalFeature -Online -FeatureName Microsoft-Hyper-V-Hypervisor
    • Reboot if you are asked to
  • Reset winsock
    • Open an elevated command prompt window
    • Run the following command: netsh winsock reset
    • Reboot if you are asked to
  • Uninstall and reinstall GOG Galaxy

One of those usually solves the problem for me. I hope it does for you too
